"Creepy" Burger King is Fired

The struggling fast-food chain's new advertising campaign, launching this weekend, will focus exclusively on the preparation of fresh ingredients rather than the King's odd antics, the company said. "That's not to say that in the future, we don't introduce him in some other form," said spokesman Miguel Piedra. "But our new marketing approach is more food-centric." Now, under new ownership, and with a new management and marketing team, Burger King is focusing on what matters: updating the stores, fixing its food and changing its image. As Alex Maccedo, SVP, marketing, put it to USA Today: "People want a reason to go back to Burger King... There are no plans to bring the King back anytime soon." The mascot has been around for years, but recently has become a more prevalent and somewhat creepy presence in ads - showing up in people's beds and peeping in their windows. The King has long been defeated by a clown named Ronald. McDonald's pulled in $1.4 billion in net income in its second quarter, a 15% increase year over year.
