Warren Jeffs Gets LIFE in Prison

Learn guitar chords for FREE through our new game Chord Master: On Tuesday August 9th, a Texas jury sentenced polygamist church leader Warren Jeffs to life in prison for sexually assaulting children. It took the jury just 30 minutes of deliberations before handing down the sentence. Jeffs was convicted for aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14 and another child under 17. The jury, which convicted Jeffs Thursday, listened to audio recordings Monday that prosecutors say show he had sex with underage girls and encouraged group sex. The FBI also read from a priesthood record, in which Jeffs wrote: "Things are happening so quickly. There is an even younger girl that the Lord wants me to take. She is 13. For some reason the Lord is sending me these girls that can be worked with." Of his 78 wives, 29 are said to have been former stepmothers - having previously serviced Rulon Jeffs, Warren Jeffs' father and predecessor as the church's leader. 56 of the girls were each other's sisters and 24 were under the age of 17. Jeffs' breakaway sect is believed to have about 10,000 followers. Their practice of polygamy, which the mainstream Mormon Church renounced more than a century ago, is part of the sect's doctrine.
