How many questions must the student answer correctly? This is a basic percentage word problem. The student needs to earn at least 72% on the test, so you want to figure out how many questions that is by finding the value of the percentage.? The best way to figure this out is by transforming the sentence into an equation and then solving it step by step.? Solve the Problem 1. Start off by rewriting the problem to isolate what you're looking for. You want to find how many questions 72% of 40 is. Write this as: What is 72% of 40? 2. Now turn the revised word problem into an equation. You can write 72% as a decimal and replace "of" with multiplication. "Is" will be the "=". Now the equation should look like this:? (.72)(40)=? 3. Solve the equation to find the answer. 0.72 times 40 equals 28.8, so the answer is 28.8.? 4. Since the student can't answer a fraction of a question correctly, you can't leave the answer as a decimal. The question states that the student must earn at least 72% on the test. Therefore, answering only 28 questions correctly will be less than 72%. You will need to round the answer up to 29 questions in order for the student to earn at least 72%.?
