U.S. Olympic Skier Kills Self

Check out Bas Rutten's Liver Shot on MMA Surge: Jeret "Speedy" Peterson, who won a silver medal for freestyle skiing for the U.S. in 2010, shot himself in Utah. The three-time Olympian called police via 9-11 moments before he took his own life, informing them where he would be. Salt Lake City police discovered the 29-year-old's body on Monday evening, July 25. Just days earlier, Peterson was arrested for drunk driving in Hailey, Idaho. Police say they clocked the athlete driving three times the speed limit and he pleaded not guilty. Peterson's suicide is a tragic punctuation to a troubled life. In 2005, he was charged with burglary and stealing weapons, to which he pleaded guilty to after felony charges were reduced. In 2006, Peterson was dismissed from the 2006 Torino Olympics after a drunken brawl and was cited in Boise for public urination in 2009. On the snow, Peterson's career was filled with success, including seven World Cup victories and a U.S. National Championship.
