The Ruler View determines what you can see in the edit window in order to figure out where exactly you are in your song. How many bars occur until the chorus comes in? How many seconds does the guitar solo last? These questions can easily be answered by referring to the ruler. Locating the Ruler The ruler is located at the top of the edit window. It stretches left to right across the entire length of your song or project and acts as the timeline. It lets you know exactly where you are in your song. For instance, this ruler shows that the play marker is at the 97th bar. The farther you zoom out, the fewer bars Pro Tools can fit inside the edit window. The farther you zoom in, the more detailed the ruler is and the more individual bars you can view. Changing Ruler View Clicking on the icon near the top left corner of the edit window next to Bars|Beats will reveal a drop down menu. You can view many different types of rulers, including Minutes:Seconds, Time Code, Time Code 2, Feet+Frames and Samples, and you can view these different rulers all at once.
