Learn guitar chords for FREE through our new game Chord Master: http://bit.ly/ChordMasterYT The Venue Live Sound Template in Pro Tools 9 will show you exactly how many tracks you'll want for a live show. It provides you with a blank slate, so to speak, because none of the tracks are named and no plugins are pre-loaded into the template. When you open Pro Tools you should be presented with the Quick Start dialog box. Choose Create Session from Template and select VENUE Live Sound from the drop down menu. When you play a live gig, you're going to be recording from the sound board. So, for most cases you're going to need 16 tracks, but you can choose a template with up to 128 tracks. For this tutorial, 18 tracks is a good choice. This will create a session with 18 unnamed tracks. This can come in handy, because when you're at a live gig you don't necessarily know what you're going to be presented with. You could be recording electric guitars or acoustic guitars.? You possibly might have a piano and a saxophone to record, also. This blank slate enables you to name the tracks once you know what kinds of instruments you're going to be working with in the live setting. When you're recording a live take or a live show, you're not focused on mixing, so plugins aren't necessary. Instead, you are focusing on capturing quality audio signals of the live performance so you can mix later.
