"Columbo" Actor Peter Falk Dies at 83

The 83-year-old actor enjoyed a career that spanned 50 years, but is best known for his iconic detective role as "Columbo." Falk also gained critical acclaim for his work with close friend, maverick filmmaker John Cassavetes, in the gritty independent movies "Husbands" and "A Woman Under the Influence." A family statement said Falk, "Died peacefully at his Beverly Hills home." He had been suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease according to his daughter, Catherine. Twice nominated for an Academy Award, Falk won five Emmys and a Golden Globe. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
