How to Do a French Twist

Check out Bas Rutten's Liver Shot on MMA Surge: In this video, Mahalo hair stylist Jamie Pierce shows you how to do a french twist. What You'll Need --------------------------------------------------------------------- * Teasing comb * Styling comb * Lightweight hairspray * Bobby pins Step 1: Prep Your Hair --------------------------------------------------------------------- If your hair doesn't already have a natural wave to it, you can set it before you start working with it. You might also want to consider a side part since a french twist is generally swept up off your neck and to one side. Step 2: Tease the Top --------------------------------------------------------------------- Take a section of hair on the top of your head and clip the front part of it out of the way. With the lower layers, take a small section and back comb it starting about an inch from the scalp and using short, quick strokes. Spray each teased layer with hairspray. Step 3: Lace the Middle Layers --------------------------------------------------------------------- The closer you get to the top, the more you should use a lacing technique. This means in addition to the short, quick strokes, you'll also want to lightly brush it down until it joins the rest of the hair. Once all your hair is teased, use your wide-tooth styling comb to smooth the curls. Step 4: Pin Your Hair --------------------------------------------------------------------- For a sleek look, pull the sides of your hair back with your teasing comb so that the hair lays as close to your head as possible. For a softer look, use your hands to pull your hair back and to the opposite side as your part. Use your bobby pins to pin your hair to that side, interlocking them as you secure your hair to keep them from moving. Smooth out the hair with a wide-tooth comb. Step 5: Twist Your Hair --------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you've smoothed your ponytail, pull all the hair back in the opposite direction and twist up over the top of your head. Use the open-ended bobby pins to secure the twist Step 6: Add Security --------------------------------------------------------------------- Take a few more open-end bobby pins, insert them in the direction of the twist but push them in back the direction they came. Tease extra pieces for added volume. Hairspray your entire head to set the look. Read more by visiting our page at:
