The Doha Debates Part 1

The Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D) at the School of Business hosted a special episode of the Doha Debates at Oriental Hall at AUC's Tahrir Campus on Monday, March 14, 2011 over the motion 'this house believes for the sake of democracy, Egypt should postpone elections'. The audience participated from inside Oriental Hall and also watched on screens in the fountain area. Speaking for the motion was women's rights campaigner, Marwa Sharafeldin and pro-democracy activist Shaheer George. Speaking against the motion was Essam El Erian, senior spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood and Sherif Taher a politician and member of Al Wafd Party. The Debate was moderated by the famous Tim Sebastian. The motion passed by 84% to 16%, with the overwhelming majority of attendees favoring postponing elections.
