Jennifer: Now that is a lovely hope chest. Thad: But it's empty! Jennifer: Well, it is empty and you know this one that I bought is just a store bought trunk, but for a hope chest you can really get anything. You can use an old army locker from your family, or a storage trunk of any kind, or even a side table that opens up. It's really just a sweet idea to have because you can keep all sorts of memories for your kids in there and as they grow they can fill it with their own stuff. Thad: And I love the fact that it's just that and then it's also a nightstand as well. Jennifer: Well, that's a great thing to do whenever you're using something that's a big piece of furniture; see if you can use it two different ways. This hope chest can be used for storage, for memories, and then it can also be used to put things on. Thad: That's awesome. Jennifer: And speaking of on, since it's got stuff in it, it's great to organize the inside like by using these baskets or you can even use cardboard boxes that are decorative or serving trays, like, anything, so that when you're putting things inside, then you can, you know, layer it so that you've got multiple years. That way as the kids grow up to be grown ups they can pull through and say 'This is when I was a child. This is when I went to high school.' Thad: So it's not a junk drawer. You can actually organize it. Jennifer: Exactly. You can organize it. And you can even personalize it. Like we've just added this decorative sign on the front, but you can certainly do the names of the people that are going to be here, you can do their first name, last name. If they have a favorite color you can even make a memory box which is a smaller version of a hope chest. It's really nice to personalize it, to use something that you already have, or use something that is very versatile, like our trunk. You know a great place to look for a chest would be a flea market or you could go to a garage sale. We've customized ours, we've seen that it's personal, we've got it organized inside, and it's made out of something that's affordable and multi-purpose. Thad: Beautiful. I love'em. Jennifer: Good!
