Herpes is a virus, so it means it's not curable but it's treatable. Most of the time, people who are diagnosed with Herpes will have a recurring outbreak although that's not necessarily true; some people have one outbreak, they have their first outbreak - it may be minor it may be more major and they may never have another outbreak again. Some people have recurring outbreaks and usually those are treated through medications. They can be treated through creams or medications that you ingest, and those are prescription medications. If you're diagnosed with Herpes your medical provider will work with you to determine what the best medication is for your needs. For people who have oral Herpes outbreaks sometimes they use a cream and they take a pill. For some people with genital Herpes they just take a pill. Sometimes people take them just before they have an outbreak so they may know an outbreak is coming because they have shedding, and then they will take their medication. Sometimes people are on medication all the time, and that can suppress the outbreaks. So if you are diagnosed with Herpes, the best thing to do is to work with your medical provider to determine what the best course of treatment is for your strain of Herpes and for how your Herpes seems to manifest.
