My name is Barbara Esses and I do events for a living. I'm Ruthie Hecht; I'm an event planner and I work with and for my mother. We're going to teach you the do's and don'ts for the perfect wedding. When choosing songs for your band or DJ to play at your wedding, think out of the box and out of your car radio. You might turn off The Black Eyed Peas' "I've Got a Feeling", but it will pack a dance floor at almost any wedding. Choose music that's upbeat and somewhat familiar. It could be your favorite song, but if your guests don't know it, they won't join in. You should definitely also have a mix of genres. There should be some contemporary, maybe one or two Motown. Keep it fun, keep it enjoyable and keep changing the tempo. If you keep going at full force all evening, your guests will be wiped out by the time dessert comes. Everybody loves Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" - always packs the floor. "American Boy" by Estelle - go to town have fun. "The Way You Look Tonight" is a classic, and honestly, "Earth, Wind and Fire" kills at every wedding. Stay away from songs like "Thriller" and any songs with a choreographed dance - it really turns people off. Also, people love traditional dances. If you're Jewish, go for the Hora; if you're Italian, have the Tarantella. Whatever your culture is, bring it in because people will really appreciate it and be happy to join with you.
