My name is Barbara Esses and I do events for a living. I'm Ruthie Hecht; I'm an event planner and I work with and for my mother. We're going to teach you the do's and don'ts for the perfect wedding. Today there are many clubs all over America where DJ's are spinning music. If you go to a club and you see a DJ there you will see that the DJ is spinning and looking at what he's doing, not at the crowd. The way to pick a DJ for a wedding is to make sure this DJ has eye contact with the crowd when seeing him in action. When visiting him and deciding whether to use him, ask the DJ what he's doing and how he presents because the most important thing is to read the crowd at a wedding. No two weddings are the same. No two crowds are the same. Some music make go over very well with some crowds and it may not go over well with others. What the DJ has to do is look at the crowd and see if they're responding to his music and if they are, fine, and if they aren't know how instantly to change gears so that he gets the dance floor full. So when interviewing a DJ make sure that it's not a club DJ necessarily but somebody who does parties and weddings all the time so they're accustomed to reading the crowd. It's not about being famous. It's not about being well-known. It's about knowing how to read the crowd and playing music that will make your crowd dance all night.
