Step 1: Gather tadpoles Look for tadpoles. If you see some, fill your bucket with water and algae from the pond and scoop up some tadpoles with the kitchen strainer. Immediately place the tadpoles in the bucket of water. Tip Do not transfer the tadpoles into water that has been chlorinated. Step 2: Transfer the tadpoles Transfer the water, algae, and tadpoles in the bucket to the aquarium when you get home. Place some small rocks on the bottom of the aquarium. Step 3: Feed the tadpoles Feed the tadpoles pieces of boiled lettuce or cabbage to supplement the algae they feed on. Tip Remove any leftover lettuce after the tadpoles are through with it to keep the aquarium clean. Step 4: Add a rock Add a large rock to the aquarium when the tadpoles begin to develop legs. At this stage the tadpoles will start to develop lungs. Because their gills will no longer work, they will need to be out of the water to breathe. Step 5: Continue caring for the froglets Continue caring for the froglets, adding small insects or bloodworms to their diet. When they have completed the transition to frogdom, take them back to the pond where you found them and let them go. Did You Know?
