Step 1: List commonly purchased items List items you or your family commonly purchase and compare prices at several different stores to find the best deals. Search online so you don't blow your budget on gas. Step 2: Buy store brands Buy store brands whenever possible. Most of the time the quality is just as good as or better than the name brand and the products can cost considerably less. Step 3: Clip coupons Clip weekly coupons from the paper or from the store's website and buy needed items when you have a coupon. You can also double your purchasing power and by waiting until the items go on sale. Tip Go online to find manufacturers rebates or join a coupon club. Step 4: Plan ahead Plan a week's worth of meals and make a single shopping trip for all the ingredients to avoid costly single trips to the store, hitting up the local fast food place, or ordering in. Don't deviate from the shopping list and don't be swayed by impulse buys. Tip Save money on produce by starting a small kitchen garden where you can grow herbs and vegetables. Step 5: Buy in bulk Buy items with a long shelf life in bulk when they go on sale, as long as you have enough storage space for them. But even if it's a good deal, don't waste money on things your family doesn't regularly eat. Buying on sale or in bulk only saves you money if you would have bought the product at a higher price!
