Step 1: Provide adequate light Locate your plant where it gets enough light. Some species do well with as little as two hours of light per day; others need six to 10. Step 2: Water lightly Water the plant no more than once every two weeks though spring, summer, and fall. Allow the potting soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. Tip Yuccas do best in well-drained soil with sand, gravel, or pebbles mixed in. Step 3: Fertilize sparingly Fertilize the plant no more than once a year. This will enhance flower growth. Tip Do not over-fertilize the yucca. Too much nitrogen can prevent the plant from blooming. Step 4: Trigger dormancy Keep the yucca outdoors until temperatures at night approach 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Exposure to cold weather will trigger the dormancy needed for the plant's next bloom period. Step 5: Transplant the yucca Transplant the yucca every three years to a larger container. This will allow the plant to maintain its growth. Did You Know? Yucca are native to North and Central America and the West Indies.
