At my school, the three most popular activities would be our football team, Trooperettes, and our soccer team. Football seems to be a popular activity no matter which high school you go to, and Eastwood is no exception. The Trooperettes are the drill kick team at Eastwood High School. Actually, there's been two girls who joined the Rockettes up in New York that were Trooperettes, which is pretty incredible! There's about 80 girls who make the team every year, so there's so many new friends to make! Our boys and girls soccer team is wildly popular at our school. Since our city borders Mexico, most is the community is hispanic, and many of the students have been playing soccer since they could walk. In fact, last year, our boys' soccer team made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the state of Texas, the first time in history!
An activity I would definately recommend students trying out for Trooperettes. They perform for every single football game and they don't ever disappoint, with their white cowboys hats and boots, it's almost like getting a performance from the Dallas Cowboys' Cheerleaders ( at least I think so). Another activity is the Musical Theatre program. In most cliche high school movies where the cheerleaders rule the school, for us it's our fine arts department. They're aren't mean or anything, so they bring much fun and spirit to the school with their outrageous productions, StuCo involvement, and singing grams. You can't help but love them, as they're some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet.
Whether it's athletics or something in the fine arts department, you can easily find something to love at Eastwood. If you don't, or would like something new, you can create your own club! This year we started our very first Feminist Club, courtesy of a friend of mine, who is not only a Trooperette, but a clarinet player in our school band. Whatever you like, you can do it here. The sky is the limit!
