Student, Lafayette High School, Class of 2017,
The most popular extracurriculars at my school are probably football, Beta Club, and the National Honor Society. I would definitely recommend the Beta Club and National Honor Society because you would probably get more out of them from an academic standpoint. The Beta Club represents academic achievement and community service, while the National Honor Society is the highest form of academic achievement at my school. It is open to juniors and seniors. Beta Club is open to all grades. They encourage academic success and achievement which would surely benefit your life in a more positive aspect. Football is good for those that strive to be successful, but football players still need to strive for academic success. I live in the south, so football is definitely more popular among average high school students. However, it hardly ever gets them very far. They rest their hopes on getting sport scholarships and forget about their education. They don't realize that your education can get you just as far, if not farther, than a sport ever will. The Beta Club and National Honor Society are not as popular, but their ranks have slowly grown with the growth of the school. We have at least fifty people actively participating in the Beta Club right now. I don't know how many are in the National Honor Society because I'm not a junior yet. However, I highly anticipate the moment when I'll be able to join their ranks.
