The top three reasons would probably be for the gorgeous location of the beach, the quality of education and the atmosphere that the people create where it is friendly and welcoming.

The three best things about UCSB are its beautiful location, wonderful professors, and genuinely warm and welcoming student body.

Anonymous, Student, University of California-Santa Barbara, Class of 2019

There are many reasons why someone should choose to attend UCSB. UCSB is one of the most profound academic universities and was ranked number 8 out of the public universities in the United States. With such high academics, one will surely get the knowledge needed to succeed after college. The location is also a top reason to choose UCSB. Living on the beach is paradise and the weather is always perfect. It cannot get any better than that. One last reason is the students. Everyone at UCSB is always so kind and considerate to their fellow peers. The university is filled with students who all share the same interest to better themselves and increase their knowledge. From my own experience as a freshman, transitioning to the college life was simple due to the accepting and welcoming atmosphere that the campus had.

Anonymous, Student, University of California-Santa Barbara, Class of 2017

The academics are amazing, professors are interested in their teachings and I have personally loved all of my classes, and am usually sad to see classes end. The quarter system keeps things interesting and fast paced, I love it. The weather is unbeatable, it's sunny and warm (but not hot) almost everyday of the year! The students body is unlike any other school I've seen, gauchos have such a strong sense of community and school pride. I think UCSB provides a very traditional college experience, students are friendly and really good looking (not kidding), passionate about their studies, and the social scene is vibrant and fun, even if you don't drink I know plenty of people who go out and just dance, or avoid DP altogether and stick to the club sports teams, or school clubs that relate to their interests.

UC Santa Barbara is not only beautiful, but has a strong community. The events that have taken place over the past few years brought us together and created a tighter sense of unity both on campus and in Isla Vista. 1. Community - Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful, no one will be upset if you ask for help or want to study with them. There is a strong sense of Gaucho pride, and people view one another as family.
  2. Facilities and Faculty- Santa Barbara has state of the art facilities, and are building more. With a new breathtaking library, spacious gym, and in-the-works biomedical lab, Santa Barbara is well equipped for whatever you are looking to do. To top it off, all of the facilities are lead and run by top-of-their-field professors, including 6 Nobel Laureates.

One of the main reasons why I decided to attend UCSB was because I had a friend who had also attended UCSB before I came in as a transfer student. There were a few schools which I had considered but I never imagined what a great time I would have here. Coming here has taught me that there are always others who want to help each other do better. Being able to have that social support is always needed, especially one one leaves from home. Many students come here from different parts of the world and always find themselves meshing with others from different cultures. Although a large demographic of students here are White, there are always students who accept and even share parts of their cultures with other students. That's what makes UCSB such a great school.

  1. Prime Real-Estate: If you have never lived near the coast, It might especially behoove you to take this opportunity to potentially have an ocean view. Rent in Isla Vista is expensive compared to back home, but its not bad considering you may be able to wake up to the sound of the ocean crashing not 20 feet away.
  2. Four Years of Fun: The kids in Isla Vista certainly know how to have a good time. Whether you ascribe to the party scene or not, there is a group of friends here for you who will always find something fun to do on the weekends.
  3. A Good Education: We do have some good programs. Our Biology department, with a particular emphasis in marine biology, is very successful. In my own experience, some of the biology professors are the best I've ever had. Our engineering department is also very popular in my year. We have six Nobel Laureates on staff including winners in physics, chemistry, and economics. The most recent of our professors to win a Nobel Prize is actually a material, electrical, and computer engineer who credited with inventing the blue LED.

Furthermore, we are ranked first in a beautiful campus. When you are stressed from studying, a UCSB student can bike about 3 minutes to go see a beach in person. Oh yeah, we are also well known for having fun!

Anonymous, Student, University of California-Santa Barbara, Class of 2018

First, students here understand and embody the philosophy of the old adage, "Work hard, play hard." While the outdoors scene and arts/music community flourish, local cafes with wi-fi and libraries still brim with dedicated students. Second, UCSB offers a staff of both brilliant and approachable professors. While prospective students should prioritize the intellectual capability of their professors, it is also important to be able to comfortably discuss lessons and concepts directly with the researcher. At UCSB, there's a unique sense of reverence for professors that provide enlightening lectures and skateboard away when class ends. Third, UCSB is on the beach. It's a tried-and-true argument, but the beach is a rewarding and destressing incentive after long hours of studying.

1) The school's prestige and programs are worth it. It's a great school to get a degree from. 2) The experience you get here is extremely unique. It is literally located on a peninsula and causes there to be an unofficial city called Isla Vista where almost only young people and students reside. Imagine being around other young people, and having everyone in your school within a mile radius. It's pretty fun. 3) It is important to get out of your element. If you are from a place similar to Santa Barbara, don't come to this school. A huge part of my college growth stems from the fact that my original hometown is completely opposite from Santa Barbara, and this made me uncomfortable for a while, which only forced me to grow at exponential rates as a person.
