The great thing about The New School is that it is in the city so there are a plethora of things to do. My friend and I usually hang out it the park, writing poetry/short stories and drawing pictures. Also there are always events going on somewhere on campus, and even though I don't live on campus, I still get to participate, as all students do. Parsons The New School for Design is located near Washington Square Park in lower Manhattan, close to beautiful walking streets, coffee shops and affordable lunch spots. What do we do for fun? Sleep! The New School is intense, we work very hard and often late into the night (all-nighters are common). Because our interests gravitate toward art and design many students visit galleries, museums and showrooms on a regular basis, not to mention its a great chance to stumble upon free hor d'oeuvres. But when have a that not-so-often free night many students go to local music venues and catch a concert or show, anything to forget you have a 6 hour critique in the next two days.

Despite the fact that the student body is extremely diverse (the university is comprised of specific schools for design, performing arts, social research, liberal arts, and other masters programs), there are common activities and shared interests between those of us who flocked to New York City. I'd say that music events, art-related events (museum days, gallery hopping, pop-up shows, art parties, video showings), and eating are the top 3 activities.

On weekends you can admire the striking works on display at the Met and the Guggenheim before feasting on ethnic fare in Chinatown or Little Italy or spending an afternoon searching for treasures at the Brooklyn Flea. I love shopping for one-of-a-kind vintage finds from the vendors who gather at the market, after you can stroll through the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which has cherry trees, a rose garden, and a Japanese hill-and-pond garden. You can attend concerts, music festivals, and live performances at Lincoln Center and take in the amazing views over Central Park and Columbus Circle. You can also ride a bike along the Hudson River Park and go Stand Up Paddle Boarding
