Rio Americano, a high school with proven academic excellence, will educate and inspire each student to succeed and meet the challenges of the future through innovative programs and college preparatory curriculum within a supportive nurturing environment. There are numerous interesting as well as challenging activities available at this High School. My top three would include the following: 1.) Joining the academic as well as other types of Clubs offered by the School. These clubs provide opportunities for youth to participate in activities, interact with peers in a supervised setting, and form relationships with adults. Some clubs focus on a specific area, thus allowing members to develop their skills and interests in that area. Club membership provides an opportunity to participate in new roles. The leadership roles that are available in clubs provide a valuable experience that is not generally available to young people. I am personally enrolled in many clubs based on my interests. For Example: The Interact Club of my high School introduced me to the value of Community Service. After being two years in the club and attending many volunteering events I understood the true meaning of our clubs' motto, "Service above our self". I would encourage the next generation to get involve in clubs and do something productive, for example Volunteering. 2.) Our band program is fabulous. We have outstanding band instructors and students learn about all the music genres. Our jazz band is particularly very good and we often perform overseas like Japan and France. 3.) Another one of our extra- curricular activity is Rio annual Toy drive. This annual toy drive is started just after Thanksgiving and continues till Christmas Holidays start. Our main motive is to collect as much as Toys for kids at Howe Elementary School and fulfill their Christmas wishes by giving them gifts. I really like this event because we get to help kids who cannot afford gifts and see the precious smiles on their faces when they get the surprise. I recommend all my friends to help this cause every year and suggest everybody to help as much as you can to make Christmas a better holiday for these children.

The most popular extracurricular activities at Rio are varsity sports, the school newspaper (The Mirada) and the school yearbook, and student government. I was personally a part of both the girls's basketball team, go Lady Raiders, and The Mirada.
