Top 3 reasons to attend Saint Mary's is the closeness within the community of students. Also the small class sizes which allows you to get to know your professor very well. Lastly, Saint Mary's has a Jan Term where you can take any class you would like. It can be a class that has absolutely nothing to do with your major/minor.

  1. Saint Mary's has small class sizes, which is common for private institutions, but with the class size being so small, students are able to have a more personal relationship with the professors which can be a big help.
  2. The campus is gorgeous, and is so nice to sit outside and enjoy the environment. I love sitting on the chapel lawn and studying.
  3. The programs are great, especially for future teachers. Saint Mary's does a great job in educating the whole person not just the specified area of study.

You will learn how to accurately, politely, and effectively deliver your thoughts and contributions about something to others, whether it be a group or individual. This skill can be hard to obtain and at SMC it is guaranteed to develop for you. Second, the community is very tight knit. The school is small enough to be comfortable and easy to socialize, but large enough to provide diversity for anyone who attends. Third, we are 15 minutes away from beautiful San Francisco, which is chock full of adventures to be had with all your friends.

1: For the close-knit community feel of our campus. Everyone is kind and welcoming, which makes our small campus comfortable.

2: You will get one-on-one attention from professors. They WANT you to come and ask questions during office hours and likely you will be the only one there, which is unheard of at large schools. There is no TA as the middleman, you speak with your professor always.

3: To challenge yourself and become a well-rounded person. Our school requires classes outside of just your major, like Seminar, that will help you thrive in the real world. Seminar is a solely discussion based class where you read and interpret texts. It is daunting at first, but you walk out more knowledgeable and inquisitive.
