Student, James Madison High School, Class of 2016,
The top three most popular extracurricular activities at James Madison would have to be Football, J.R.O.T.C. and Culinary Arts. I would personally recommend J.R.O.T.C. as an extracurricular activity one should choose. One it teaches what life in the army will be like, two it gives you scholarship opportunities and third it builds your character through various physical exercises and team work. I would also recommend Culinary Arts to anyone. My time in Culinary Arts was spend developing my own leadership skills, because when something went wrong in the kitchen someone needs to do some thing. This Extracurricular activity also gives you a taste of teamwork whether you are cooking a dish with a partner or washing dishes. The most memorable incident was when our chef underestimated the customer flow one day, it was chaos there were people rushing dishes to the line and people yelling and a Chef sweating; this experience fought me patience and understanding towards the people in the kitchen on free pancake day or other packed restaurant. Both these Activities are worth a try whether you want to get ahead in the army or cooking industry or you just want to have a good time.
