Many students at Belmont play music, and perform at local venues. We have a lot of music business and music theory majors, but our degree diversity is ever-expanding, with a huge growth in art majors, nursing majors, and future lawyers. Many of us take advantage of Nashville's record store days, when record stores sell albums at ridiculously discounted prices. One of the best ways to find out about new and upcoming local bands is just through word-of-mouth around campus, or attending a neighborhood house show.

  1. Located in the heart of Music City (Nashville, Tennessee), Belmont prides itself in having a vast population of students with a passion for music. No matter where you are on campus, you can expect to hear some original chord progressions paired with some vocal harmonies. However, it extends beyond the singers and guitar players. Many students play drums, piano, trumpets, flutes, etc. in their dorms. Any form of musical instrument you can think of, you will probably find tucked away in a student's dorm. Apart from this, there are always concerts happening, and a few of them are even sponsored by the school itself.

  2. Belmont University prides itself in its luscious lawns and vegetation. Built on the land of the historic Belmont Mansion, this campus is a gigantic garden. You will always find people outside playing frisbee, throwing a football, dancing around, having picnics, etc. Living on a campus this beautiful makes it nearly impossible to stay indoors too long, at least when the weather is cooperating.

  3. The surrounding area of Belmont University is famous for its small and delicious restaurants, comfy coffee shops, vintage bookstores, and trendy clothing stores. If you ever feel the need to get away, three gorgeous and completely different communities lie within a 10 minute walk from campus: Belmont Boulevard, 12 South, and Hillsboro Village. With a car, one has the ability to visit various shopping centers, more amazing food, and Nashville's surrounding countryside full of beautiful parks, trails, and lakes.

Students at Belmont are like family so we constantly spend time with each other. While with each other we: go on photography/video adventures, visit local coffee shops and restaurants because we greatly support our local entrepreneurs, and finally we go out to writers rounds and free music events that support one another.

My favorite things to do at Belmont include going to basketball games. I love supporting the Bruins, and am a proud fan of my team. Go Bruins! Another fun thing to do at Belmont is mingle among the singles. I am single and I like to mingle. Don't you? Open invitation to mingle here. Thirdly, I love eating at our cafeteria. It is new and the locals call it #ballin'.

At Belmont, students are exceptionally creative and socially aware. Because of this, I would say the top 3 things students do are: 1. Musical activities -- concerts, writer's nights, performances, etc. 2. Volunteer -- get active in the community and make a name for yourself 3. Network -- attend events that will impact their future in a powerful way

Luckily I attend college in an incredibly fun city. Nashville has endless amounts of fun things to do, and its hard for me to narrow it down to just 3, but here it goes: 1) Attend concerts: Nashville is filled with talented musicians, and every night there are concerts and writers round all throughout the city. Belmont University is a music school, so there is always something musical going on. 2)Eat: The good thing about Nashville is there is great food everywhere. The bad thing about Nashville is that there is GOOD FOOD EVERYWHERE!!!! Let me tell you this, budgeting for me does not involve money on clothes, its all about budgeting going out for food. 3)Hike: Tennessee has so many beautiful places to go sight seeing. Many students love to go hiking at Radnor Lake or even cliff jumping at Percy Priest Lake.

Well the number one thing that students do for fun would definitely be anything involving music whether it's playing, going to concerts or listening to someone else, music is a very important part of belmont. Number two would have to be exploring Nashville and the city around us. I think lastly students like to go to sporting events, in particular to support our mens basketball team.

Belmont is located in one of the greatest cities on earth, Nashville, TN. So there is always something to do both on and off campus. If your looking for something on campus we have an amazing fit and rec center with a basketball court, full gym, and rock climbing wall. We also have frequent events in our student center including movie nights and dances. If your looking for something off campus, downtown Nashville is about a 10 minute drive or 20 minute bus ride and is filled with great shopping, food, and music!

  1. HOUSE SHOWS. A large percentage of Nashville's young musicians start at Belmont. They form bands and perform together in people's living rooms, basements, backyards, etc. A Belmont student who hasn't been to one of these is hard to find. They're usually free or under $5 to get in, and the line-up is stacked with 3-4 local and Belmont bands with the occasional self-supporting touring group. These events are always organized by students either just to have fun or as the beginning of something big.
  2. Basketball is another big thing Belmont students love. It's the most popular activity that could be considered part of "campus life" (whereas house shows are not held on campus or with the help of the administration). Belmont's men's basketball team is a claim-to-fame, and every home game is packed and louder than anything I've ever heard. They deck out the caf with ribbons and basketball themed deserts on game days. In addition, if the screaming inside the Curb Event Center's court is too much for you, just go to the caf! Like I said, it's decked out, but there's also a projector and speakers set up with the live feed of the game. The energy is great, and so is our team. Go Bruins woopwoop
  3. Two words: Bongo, Java. Bongo Java is a super hip house-turned-coffee place right across the street from campus (literally on Belmont Blvd). It's the perfect place to go for organic, fair trade coffee and a relaxed atmosphere. People go there for everything: homework, socializing, casual meetings (German club, organizing shows, etc.), or even to just kill an hour... or 3. The food is also awesome. Plus, every time you go (which for a Belmont student is about 3-4 times a week), you raise the odds that you'll meet someone famous. That's right, Ben Folds (who lives about a minute away from campus, by foot) goes there regularly, and back when Taylor Swift was living in Nashville, she was said to frequent the place.

Go to Broadway here in Nashville and line dance at the Wildhorse Saloon. Sometimes we like to just stay in and watch movies on Netflix together. During basketball season, the Curb Event Center is the best place to go to watch our men's and women's team dominate on the basketball court.

For fun the students at Belmont University do a number of things. The vast majority of them play musical instruments and are also music majors. Guitar seems to be the most popular instrument played with drums being a close second. The weather is usually warm here in Nashville so a lot of students play catch and soccer on the beautiful grass lawns here at Belmont University. Staying in shape is also important for the students here, many of them enjoy lifting weight and exercising. The weight room is always packed with smiling students enjoying themselves.
