Northpoint provides a high school experience that very few are lucky enough to receive. The school is perfect for students who do not want a typical high school experience. As Northpoint is an Expeditionary Learning school, the typical Northpoint student is one who agrees with the Expeditionary Learning model. EL schools focus on hands-on learning, critical thinking, and research out in the field. Northpoint has given me so many opportunities that I would not have had at a traditional high school; such as fieldwork trips to Farmington, New Mexico to study oil production, Tucson, Arizona to study immigration policy, and Phoenix, Arizona to study the food industry. This year, our expedition topic is "Income Inequality; Some More Equal Than Others" and we will be traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana to study the affects of Hurricane Katrina ten years later. Northpoint typically offers at least one opportunity to study abroad each year as well. During the end of my junior year, I spent a month on a cultural immersion in Germany. For these reasons, Northpoint is for the seekers of adventure, of travel, and of real life experiences. Not only that, but Northpoint also has small class sizes. This allows students to establish relationships with each other and the faculty. This school is an ideal fit for people who want their high school career to be the most memorable years of their life, for reasons better than they could imagine.
