Would you recommend attending Shawnee Mission East High School if you had the choice? Why or why not?

Yes. At times East students can be judged. A lot of schools think that we are preppy, rich, and stuck up. I feel like you find wealthy kids who like to dress "preppy" anywhere you go. The real East is a school that is a kind environment that is full of school spirit. If I had the choice I would attend this school again. I have had a great education, found amazing friends, and always have fun. I have had so many opportunities to join all these diverse clubs and activities.

I adamantly recommend attending East. It is a school with both passion and character. East students are driven and continue to excel in every field, whether that's winning the state football championship or winning first place nationally in journalism. This is a school that will provide students with a community and a challenge, no matter what they are interested in. Teachers and administrators truly care about their students' wellbeing, and many of our teachers show up hours before school and stay for hours afterwards in order to work with every student for as long as is necessary. Our principal, John McKinney, strives to make a difference in every student's life, whether that means coming out to support a volleyball game or finding new solutions to creating a positive environment for transgender students. There truly is no school in the area that can even come close to being better than East.
