At Highland Park High School, there exists an extensive array of different extracurriculars, through any of which a student can feel like they are a part of something. Considering our small size, the diversity of clubs and activities offered is amazing. Something especially great is the student's ability to encourage the establishment of his or her own club. Just within the past few years, a number of new clubs, as recommended by Highland Park High School students themselves, have been started. These include an art club, an environmental club, and more.
I would say that the 3 most popular extracurriculars are concert choir, Model UN, and DECA. Additionally, if asked, these are also the 3 extracurriculars I would recommend. Choir gives students a voice, not only individually, but collectively. It instills a love of music, and gets students to work together in unity to create a beautiful sound. Model UN teaches great public speaking skills, helping students overcome "stage fright," as well as encouraging group cooperation, all while raising awareness of particular global issues. Finally, DECA is a business club that teaches students important real-life skills and knowledge, that they can utilize as they grow up, and use to guide them towards successful futures.
