Football, Basketball, and the band are the three most popular extracurricular activities. I would recommend the band and any type of sport because our school has an amazing band and athletic program. Participating in these activities is very fun!

The most popular extracurricular activities at Johnstown High School are band, choir, and football. I would recommend band because 50% of our student body takes part in it and is a great bonding environment and a fun experience.

When it comes to a small farming town like the one I live in, Johnstown, there are very few things that even come close to getting the community as excited as they get for football Friday nights! THE Johnstown Johnnies have made it to the state playoffs multiple times and watching our town come together to carpool to games that are two, three, or even four hours away is truly incredible! I may be a little biased since I have been a cheerleader for as long as I can remember, but I believe that our football team is one of the best things to happen to our small town. Everyone from infants to middle school kids, proud alum and even the elderly, sit up in the stands to cheer on our boys, rain or shine- or even snow! The feeling that you get standing on the sidelines as our boys score that winning touchdown, the crowd losing their minds, the band blaring our fight song and every proud, smiling face gleaming down is truly the best feeling in the world. Which brings me to "The Pride of Johnstown" our Johnstown Johnnie Big Red Band! In a school of approximately five hundred students, more than two hundred march in our record-setting half time shows! If you look closely, you may even spot a few of our football players and cheerleaders marching in their uniforms. In the 2015 Outback Bowl, held in Tampa, Florida, our school brought home not one, but three 1st Place titles including one which allowed them to prestigiously perform during the bowl's pregame. You can always find them working hard during their long practices, having the time of their lives performing in countless parades and bringing home even more pride and joy to our town! But band and football don't consume all of the talent Johnstown has to offer. Our choir/theatre program is second-to-none! I would like to start out by bragging about the wonderful instructors we have been blessed to know over the years which is one of the main reasons students flock to this extracurricular activity. Our choir is a home away from home to approximately 125 students each year, and the class runs over almost everyday. They start out with warm-ups (which could probably make really cool ringtones), then elevate to more difficult pieces. Our school is known for attempting music from different countries, languages and dialects. They perform for opera houses, nursing homes, and are recognized for their jaw dropping musicals. Opening night is always sold out and the shows bring our community closer and closer every year! So as an appreciative piece of Johnstown's puzzle, I would absolutely recommend football to the boys of fall, band to a student with a passion for music, and choir to anyone who loves the spotlight!
