Most high school sports teams are popular among students, and this is largely the case at Riverview; however, we have some out of the box sports that have really caught on during my time at the school. One of our most popular activities is Quidditch. The Harry Potter inspired sport began as a club but quickly gained popularity and turned into a yearly teacher versus student grudge match that draws student crowds comparable to that of football games. National Honor Society is another extremly popular at "The View". I feel that it says a lot about Riverview that a prestigious national organization is one of the most involved and sought after clubs for students. Rounding out the top three most popular extracurricular activities at Riverview would be ROTC. Our school has one of the largest ROTC programs in the county, and it is something our school takes a lot of pride in. This is evident when ROTC performs at a pep rally or assembly and the large groups of teenagers fall silent and give their full attention and respect to those students.
I would be biased in recommending extracurriculars that I have been involved in and which have shaped my experience at Riverview into an extremely positive one. Those would be centered around the school's yearbook program. I was placed in yearbook my freshman year by a scheduling mistake and i was too scared to go to guidance to fix it, which in hindsight is one of the best things i have done in high school. As a freshman, yearbook is a great way to see the school in it's entirety on a scope that many students can't. Another personal favorite extracurricular of mine, is National Honor Society. As I mentioned before, NHS is extremely popular amongst students and I have found that it certainly lives up to the hype. Last but not least, I would be doing an injustice if I didn't recommend the school's wonderful steering program. Some of the best experiences I've had in high school have been being involved in all of my class steering committees.
