If you are the type of student who wants to be in the big city, wants to party all the time, and doesn't want to work particularly hard, Penn State is not for you. As much as us Penn State Students like to have fun, we know when it's time to get down to business. Academic and research is core to who we are as Penn State students. We are well rounded and ready to work hard. If that doesn't sound like you, you aren't Penn Stare material.

Deciding on which school to attend for college is a big choice, there are so many to pick from! There are so many different types with different things to offer that the process can be frustrating. When looking at The Pennsylvania State University, a student who is extremely shy, doesn't like crowds, or is not full of spirit should not attend this university. Friends will not be easy to make if a person is extremely shy, and crowds and Penn State go hand in hand due to the high volume of students and faculty. Additionally, one of the many reasons the university is well known is due to its' enormous amount of intense spirit and love for the school. Someone who cannot be in that atmosphere could perhaps find a better fit somewhere else.

Those without sufficient discipline, maturity, and academic qualities should not attend because they wouldn't make it through their program/course of choice and would detract more than they can contribute to everyone else's learning experience.

The type of student who should not attend Pennsylvania State University is a student who gets nervous or anxious around big crowds. While there is a place for everyone to fit in at Penn State, some classes might be between 500-700 students and if there is a student like myself who struggles with anxiety might find it hard to be successful in a class that size. Students who thrive in smaller communities might have a difficult time in a school with over 40,000 students.

The type of student who should not attend the main campus of Penn State is a student who does not strive to succeed. Penn State is a university with top-notch academics, athletics, and student organizations. No matter what other aspects students are involved with other than academics itself, they are pushing themselves to be the best they can be. Students who have been accepted into Penn State University Park generally already have this attitude, but the classes and extracurricular activities push students to maintain their drive to succeed. Also, being surrounded by people who have similar goals can motivate students more to work hard for what they want. A person who slacks off and does not care about their future would ultimately not make it at Penn State.

If you're not self-motivated, Penn State might not be the place for you. It can be hard to stand out on a campus with 45,000 students, so you need a lot of personal initiative to find your niche and excel in it. For example, large class sizes are common in the first two years--which means getting one-on-one help from professors and course assistants only happens if you are the one to make it happen. (As a related note, if you are used to being a big fish in a little pond and don't want that to change, Penn State is probably not the place for you; with this many great students, it's hard to be top of the top without working hard). It would be easy to drift through your four years without doing anything worthwhile if you don't seize the opportunities you want--so think about if you have enough get-up-and-go to take responsibility for your own future or if you would prefer somewhere that offers more guidance.

If you are not a hard worker, Penn State is not the school for you. Penn State has some of the brightest and innovative graduates because they push you to work hard and learn as much as possible. The curriculum is tough because professors want to challenge you in order make their students different.

If you indulge in partying , drinking, and socializing amongst many social crowds as your main source of activities, then you might not need to attend this campus. UP was ranked as the "#1 Party School" and it can have a negative effect on those who get distracted by the fun and slack on their homework.

Like previously stated, someone who is driven by their own selfish desires should not be attending an university such as Penn State. Penn State has an extremely strong code of conduct, unifying students of all backgrounds and races to provide a strong educational program that will not allow anyone to feel discomfort. If someone believes that his or her goals are more important than how others may feel, that person is allowing their intelligence to overcome their expectations as a human being.

Any student that feels too shy in a situation with a bunch of people should not come the the Penn State Main campus. You will have to take lectures in which the room is filled with another 300+ students and if you can only truly learn in a more closely one-on-one way, it will be hard for you to learn the necessary materials. Also, it will make it hard for you to adjust to living away from your family and friends.
