Whenever people think of MIT, they probably imagine a bunch of anti-social nerds who do nothing but code all day. However, this is completely false! While everyone here is a nerd (and proud!), most people are super friendly and do not fit the stereotypical prototype most people might have of an average MIT student. So, the most fun thing about MIT in my opinion is that there are so many diverse people here and it is shown through the variety of dorm culture, something I feel that most applicants don't even know about. For example, the dorm I live in, Senior House, is all about being open and creative. We have tons of murals that student residents have painted over the years. We are also known for being very sex-positive and tolerant, so it doesn't matter what gender, orientation, race, or class you are, you can feel at home here! There are lots of other dorms at MIT that have specific cultures like East Campus which is similar to Senior House except they are known to be builders. During CPW (Campus Preview Weekend) every year they build a roller coaster from scratch and then let the incoming freshmen take rides on it! So, the best thing to do for fun at MIT, in my opinion, is to get to know your peers, because every single one of them is interesting in their own way! Without the students, we wouldn't have these amazing dorm cultures and sense of community.
