When I first went to Newark Memorial my sophomore year, the three extracurricular activities that stood out the most to me due to their popularity were the Speak Easy Club, Interact Club, and the badminton team.
The Speak Easy Club gathers every other week in a dim-lighted room and gives students an opportunity to be poets, to exercise their freedom of speech, to speak freely of whatever is on their mind. Other students are allowed to watch and listen and sometimes they are inspired by these students who step up to speak up because they can either relate to what is being spoken or they realize that anyone's words, including their own, can also have an impact.
The Interact Club probably has the most members because the club actively participates in community service, giving students a chance to gain hours and to make a difference in the community. The upperclassmen are friendly and outgoing and are not hesitant to befriend or help the underclassmen.
The badminton team was my most favorite to be a part of because I enjoyed the sport, my teammates, and the coaches. It was a great learning experience and being a part of a team is a good way to bond with others because there's a lot of encouraging one another.
They all have a reason for their renown attention and I would highly recommend and encourage students to join and understand that reason themselves. It is a great way to meet new people and involve yourself with the high school experience.
