Student, Shawnee Mission South High School, Class of 2016,
The three most popular extracurricular activities at Shawnee Mission South are KSMS, yearbook, and International Club. KSMS is our video and broadcasting program. Every year kids tryout by performing skits and giving video and event ideas. KSMS runs something we call "Green Fridays," which is a big celebration in our school courtyard during lunch on the day of our first home football game every year. They film and put together videos introducing every school sport and even make videos for fun/entertainment. Yearbook has become a popular activity over the last few years with the staff growing from 30 to 90 people. Students have become more interested in photography and writing and even designing and have joined the staff to help capture the spirit of out school. International Club is the organization centered around our foreign exchange students. Every year we students from a variety of places from Germany to Spain, Brazil to Norway, Thailand to Belgium. The club focuses on introducing the exchange students to our American culture as well as encouraging them to teach us about theirs. We have 14 exchange students this year and a large number of the student body who come out to meetings/activities to meet and interact with others and become more culturally involved. I would recommend becoming involved in all three of these if possible because they are a great way to become involved with the school and meet other students from all different grades and to put yourself out there.
