You should be kind of geeky, but outgoing, smart, but not over the top don't help anyone study or they will get ahead of you in life, and ready to show the world who you really are.

The great thing about UW-Madison is how diverse the student body is. There is no "typical" student at UW-Madison or a "typical" high school student that attends the university. To try and categorize what a typical UW-Madison student was like in high school, I would need to say they were hard working, well-rounded, perseverant, and knew what they wanted in a school and career. The high school UW student was goal oriented, outgoing, and well-adjusted. They could adjust to any kind of environment, especially one as big, diverse, and hectic as UW-Madison's campus.

From my high school, a mixed of stupid and smart people go to Madison. Not necessarily GPA stupid but the kids may be immature, socially stupid, or just not very bright kids to begin with. To attend Madison, the standard pre-requirements are not that high. In reality, students need to have a decent GPA(~3.5) as well as some side activities like sports or volunteering.

It is a hard school to get into, so you need good grades. In addition to good grades, you need to take honor courses and AP courses. Those courses were very beneficial for college. I also was involved in a lot of other activities, such as baseball for all four years of high school, cross country, the National Honor Society and National Honor Society for Foreign Language. UW-Madison also looks at the community service you participate in during high school. And finally, UW-Madison requires a recommendation. I received a very nice recommendation from one of my high school teachers.
