Wow, the top three reasons to attend? That's a hard question because there are so many great reasons to attend UNC. One reason to attend UNC is because the academics are great, and there are so many options for majors and minors. Another great reason to attend is the beautiful campus and the incredible feel of a college town. Everything is so gorgeous, no matter the time of year, whether snow is falling through the groves of trees, the flowers are in bloom in the arboretum, or when the leaves fall onto the old well. Finally, the most important reason to attend a school is the energy you feel when you are on the campus, and that energy should be that you can make that University into your home. I think UNC is one of those universities that has so many opportunities for an individual to fit in and find a new home and school family. It's hard to meet a stranger among the community of students, which makes a difference.

UNC-CH has an excellent reputation and is a great university to have on your resume. The educational resources are excellent as well, and the variety of degrees offered and experiences in terms of summer internships and cutting edge technology are hard to compete with. UNC-CH is a public school and has lower tuition then the ivy schools but still well respected.

College is the place where you start to shape who you are going to be for the rest of your life. However, it is not the college that changes, you, but your decisions in college that will provide the most growth for you. UNC-CH is my college, and I chose it because it provides me with the opportunities to grow into the person that I want to be, the best person I can be. I did not choose it for only three reasons, but all of my reasons can fit into three categories that are so vital that one is no more important than the other. The first, UNC-CH is a home. It is a place where one can be comfortable within a family or in our case a community. It is nurturing and always provides us with options to succeed. Whether it be through our wonderful professors taking to time for office hours, our academic advisers who set us on the right path, or our CAREERS center to help guide us for the future (to name a few), the faculty at UNC-CH are in place to allow us to grow. That is what I would call a home. Secondly, Chapel Hill is a college and more so a town that provides so much to do. There are so many ways to have fun and equally important, relax. This is necessary for growth as well, the ability to get away from the struggles of working hard and to be able to remember that there needs to be fun involved in growing, or there is no point in growing at all. College is not a chore, it is a set of opportunities, and Chapel Hill provides those opportunities in a way that people can achieve success and happiness together. Lastly, Chapel Hill is full of challenges. When at UNC-CH, you must open yourself up to meeting new people and trying new things. You must step out of your comfort zone and experience parts of life that you have never explored before. Chapel Hill challenges you in ways you would not have thought possible as well as the obvious academic portion. More important to note though, it only challenges you as much as you need to be able to grow into the best version of yourself. It does not force you to do anything, but provides you with ways to grow, and it is your actions that dictate what you do. I could not ask for more in a college, UNC-CH provides me with everything I could hope for, and if you are driven, it will provide the same for you.

  1. Great value education. There's a reason we're called "The Ivy League of the South" while being a public university.
  2. Connections. The UNC community atmosphere not only increases your job prospects but will make you never want to leave. We're a tight-knit Carolina family.
  3. Opportunity. From majors to student organizations to public service outlets, there is no end to what you can do at UNC-Chapel Hill!

Great academics. The school, itself, is a home away from home. Everyone is friendly. Location, location, location. Great temperatures year-round. Has ranked #1 in best academics for the cost (value) for the 5 or more years. What more can you ask for!

A prestigious university that is notable to people later on in life, especially to those that are a part of our expansive and successful alumni network. Another great reason is the sports teams provide plenty of entertainment for people who are fans of all sports. Final reason is the campus is gorgeous and everyday in Chapel Hill is a great day. I'm currently on summer vacation away from Chapel Hill and I'm counting down the days until I go back because that is how much I love it.

  1. Chapel Hill is very stimulating intellectually. Despite the rumors floating around in regards to the scandal, I have yet to be in a class that doesn't challenge me. I can say I have genuinely earned all of my grades.
  2. It is truly the home away from home. Friends are easy to come by and family is just a few late nights spent together away. You don't have to worry about being far from home, because this place becomes your home.
  3. If none of that works, c'mon. This is the University of North Carolina. There are so many reasons to come here and there is no way I could even begin to name them all. It's up to you to find which reasons are good enough for you, which brings my final reason: THERE ARE SO MANY REASONS.

-Exceptionally high value of education: UNC is consistently rated among the top few best valued public university educations in the country. -Diversity of student body: UNC's students are representative of all races, ethnicities, religious affiliations, sexual preferences, gender identities, and schools of thought. Everyone can find their niche at UNC. -Join one of the greatest college sport rivalries to ever exist: UNC's students truly form a family, particularly in the face of a viciously competitive UNC-Duke basketball game. After all, there is truly nothing more glorious than partaking in a Merritt's BLT while sporting your best Carolina blue, one arm draped around a total stranger and both of you singing the hymn that is "Hark the Sound of Tar heel Voices" perfectly in sync with the thousands of other fellow adoring fans.

The top reason for attending UNC is the spirit. No other student body compares to UNC's and the college town vibe of all of the locals supporting UNC. The second top reason are the variety of majors offered. The third top reason are the general education requirements in order to graduate. Often times students like myself come in sure about what they want to major in but a general education requirement class challenges what a person thought was set in stone and some even change their majors.

If a student loves basketball If a student wants to get the best quality education without expensive tuition rates (in-state students) If a student loves diversity

1) The sense of community and love you feel at Carolina is unlike any other. The moment you step on campus as a student, you are a Tar Heel and belong to a family that truly cares for you. 2) Carolina is known for their academics, and for good reason. While at UNC, you will be challenged in so many different ways that you didn't even know possible. Your professors will be there to help you every step of the way, and your eyes will be opened to so many new possibilities. 3) The campus! UNC is the oldest public university in the NATION. Everywhere you look while walking to class, there is a piece of history. UNC is truly like no other college campus in the country.

UNC has a place for everyone. There are clubs and organizations to fit almost any personality type or personal interest. The students here are very open and often have no problems speaking their minds about the issues they feel are important. There are often even protests fighting against social injustices that anyone is welcome to join and support. It's truly an amazing school to be a part of.

Anonymous, Student, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Class of 2017

  1. The neoclassic architecture of a school built in the late 18th century is unique and creates a culture of sophistication, while occasionally combined with modern science laboratories and research facilities. The legacy of UNC-Ch is displayed in its buildings and resources, and it's easy to love.
  2. There are so many options available! Not only is it a liberal arts school with a killer medical program, it's also a large but selective public school, which means that if you get in, you're guaranteed to have both the time and options to choose your future. Not to mention faculty that is dedicated to helping you get the education you need, even adjusting programs just for you.
  3. Housing is really not that expensive, and the bus system in the whole city is phenomenal (actually rated one of the best in the country.) If dorm life is not your thing, living off campus is accessible and not an arm or a leg. There's lot of cool stuff nearby -- University Mall and Southpoint towards Durham, local and organic farms towards Carrboro, old historic buildings towards Hillsborough.
