There's a lot of lounging about or outside activity. It's very much opinionated by the students because some would rather play sports outside while others would rather stay indoors. My personal top three are video games, jogging, and reading.

Students at UNCA are an eccentric and diverse group of people. When the weather's nice, you can always find people hanging out on the quad, whether it be throwing a Frisbee, enjoying the weather, doing homework, or just chatting with friends! The UNCA community feels more like family. A lot of students can also be found off campus! Hiking is a huge hobby here in Asheville. Being right on the Blue Ridge Parkway means there is no shortage of trails or amazing views for us to seek out. And when all else fails, you can find students walking around downtown, enjoying the warm and welcome atmosphere that Asheville is known for. Living here means you might not be as interested in some downtown activities, but it never gets old just mingling with other locals. And the drum circle every Friday night is always a fun time.

  • Listening to live music from fellow students and/or local artists
  • Attending art exhibits/performances

  1. Exploring the downtown area and the variety of eclectic shops and restaurants it offers is what most students do in their freetime.
  2. For the more outdoor-oriented folks, the Blue Ridge Parkway and surrounding areas offer beautiful scenery.
  3. Many students choose to stick close to campus and immerse themselves in the on-campus activities school clubs and organizations offer.

In our down time we UNC Asheville students enjoy hiking, volunteering down town, and hanging out on the quad!

I can't speak for everyone, but I know I spend a lot of time in the game room: there are pool and ping-pong tables, as well as a couch and a Wii in the corner. Downtown's always fun, too: there are plenty of good places to eat. But sometimes it's fun to just lounge, and the residence halls are great for that.

Students tend to enjoy the atmosphere of the school, as it is very laid-back and friendly. One will constantly see students engaging in fun activities on the quad, as well as talking in the cafes. Since the school is based in Asheville, North Carolina, a reputed liberal area, students enjoy the area with several, not-so-typical shops and events. Furthermore, the town is beautiful and, if nothing else, it is always a pleasure to just walk the streets enjoying the view of beautiful buildings and people.

UNC-Asheville students like to hike and get out into the open Blue Ridge Mountains almost year-round. We like to go see, or go to play, live music of all types. Usually conversation about the world is abound no matter what is going on.
