The type of student who should attend Sussex County Community College is anyone who is serious about their education. The graduation statistics for this school are not very promising at 22%. I am a non-traditional student at thirty years old. Since returning to school in August 2015, I have been enrolled full-time and have maintained a 4.0 GPA which is a success that I plan to continue throughout my continuing education. Taking college seriously is extremely important especially when one is receiving grants or scholarships. To me, there would be nothing worse than someone receiving money for college just to see it wasted if that student fails or drops out when someone who has extreme promise could have benefited greatly from that money. With that said, I must also add I don’t believe in mistakes. I feel that we are always in the right place at the right time for the right reasons. Every step in my journey has added another word to my definition of success. Someone once told me that Michelangelo’s famous sculpture ‘The Pieta’ was not carved out of a block of marble, but rather he simply removed the pieces that didn’t belong to reveal a true masterpiece. I believe a spirit of gratitude is an essential cornerstone to all human life and in this spirit I seek to continue my education at a four-year university. With your consideration of me for this scholarship, I look forward to revealing my inner ‘Pieta.’
