Describe the type of student who should attend Overland High School. Why?

Anonymous, Student, Overland High School, Class of 2017

This is a hard question to answer straight forward. There is no type that should or should not attend. Overland is extremely diverse not only in nationalities, but also in personalities and interests. But one big thing, if I had to absolutely choose, would be school pride. There is always something going on that is worth contribution and unity of the students. Theres a huge student body attendance at sports events cheering on their fellow classmates lucky enough to wear our school's jersey. There is also tons of school activity weeks, for example Make-A-Wish week or Home Coming week, in which students try to take part in as many dress up days or competitions within classes. What I'm trying to say is, you have to be proud of your school and be able to say "Yeah I'm an Overland Blazer, so what?"

My school takes pride in being one of the most diverse schools in the country. Yet, friends from other schools call it a flaw, calling us "ghetto" or making fun of our academic/athletic standing. Therefore, I believe that the type of student who should attend Overland High School should be one who is close minded, ignorant, or judgmental of other cultures. Personally, I used to be someone who resented my school. I initially believed the students were savages, not caring about their futures. But over time, I learned that judging my peers based on their actions in school don't define who they are as a person. I realized that my friends may not have the support from parents as I did, were full of financial burdens, or even worked two jobs to pay the bills their family could not. I learned that I was the ignorant one who felt the need to higher myself over everyone I found fault in. But, attending this school has made me realize that this school certainly produces great students who can excel in any field: engineering, politics, medicine, entertainment, and more. I believe this school can open up anyone's cynical mindset and prove how diversity is our strength.
