Part-time MBA students usually enroll in such a program because they have existing family and work commitments, and the program at the Carlson School of Management is designed to work around those changing commitments. Students are given up to seven years to complete the program, though it’s possible to finish in as few as two. Most students complete the MBA in three to three and a half years.
While most courses meet on campus once a week, that’s not the only option available to part-time students. Many classes are also offered online and in compressed formats. The actual class meeting times are designed to accommodate full-time work: weekday evenings, Monday through Thursday, and Saturday mornings and afternoons.
Students can reduce the workload required to complete the degree if they qualify for waivers of certain core classes. Most classes can be waived if the student has either two undergraduate classes or one graduate class in the same field, so long as they were completed within the last five years at an AACSB-accredited institution. Waiver exams are also available to be completed during the first semester of the program.
