Multiple connections are made through this school that can lead to great research, internship, and career opportunities. The university is a community within a city...it feels like a separate town filled with people who love the university. There are so many opportunities here. There are many different majors to choose from if you're undecided and there are many ways to have fun. The people here are often dedicated to learning because it's a good school, so if you want a good learning experience, this is a good place to go. Another thing is the diversity. If you're from a small town like me, you don't see many different people or cultures. Going here opens your eyes to the big world and gives you an appreciation for others.

First off, the education is second to none; all the best professors and academicians employed take their work very seriously. Another reason to seriously consider the University is that there are plenty of great on-campus housing options that are affordable and convenient. The third reason is the students. The students at the University are incredible; always striving to improve, always trying to push the limits of human ingenuity and achievement. When they're not studying, they know how to have a good time. What is more: they know the balance between the two; their grades don't slip for the sake of fun and aren't too rigid either.

The number one reason is the location. This is really the only Big 10 school in a major metropolitan area. That provides not only a lot of employment opportunities after graduation but a lot of entertainment value as well. Second, the academics are some of the best in the world, and it is offered at a pretty low cost. The U of M has many Top 10 ranked programs and even several Top 5 programs. Finally, the school is big but admits students directly into the sub-programs like business and engineering, so the big school does not seem that big. You can make a big school small but you can't make a small school big.

Location, location, location! I love the campus itself, and it is near public transportation that can take you downtown quickly and easily. Beyond that, the academics are great. In my experience, I have taken classes with very opinionated people which makes learning far more interesting than just lectures and readings. And most importantly, the people. This isn't a college without flaws, but I can without a doubt say that I have changed significantly as a person in my years here and I know that is because of the acquaintances, peers, professors, and Minnesotans that I have met along the way.

The three reasons I attended the University of Minnesota were availability of majors, location, and tuition. I wanted to study Chemical Engineering. I have wanted this for a few years without changing my mind. However, the only schools that offered the major in Minnesota were this school and the U of MN - Duluth. The Twin Cities campus is significantly closer to my home than Duluth, not to mention it has a much better reputation. The U of MN is located in a large, bustling city, Minneapolis. Growing up in a small suburb of a few thousand people, I was so sick of small-town life that I knew I wanted to move to the city by the time I was 15. The Twin Cities area, besides having a large, diverse community, also has many companies that hire U of MN graduates. 3M, Target, and Medtronic are three of the most common. The third reason I decided to attend this school was the tuition. Compared to any private school, the cost is about half as much money. I don't want to be paying off student loans forever. I want to be free and financially independent.

I am extremely enthusiastic about pursuing a career in medicine because it will enable me to work with a diverse array of people, from impoverished families to professional colleagues who have dissimilar backgrounds and life experiences, but share my goals of improving patient care in small communities. Having creative outlets has played an enormous role in my success in school, and it will continue to do so in the future as I explore new opportunities and make even stronger human connections. In the following year, I will be enrolling as a medical student to pursue my goal of becoming a physician. Having this scholarship would make a world of difference for me. Medical school is very expensive and lessening the financial burden of loans will allow me to focus more on my patients and give them the quality of care that they deserve.

The people- while there are still some strange people on campus, most people are very easy to approach and talk to, professors are always there to answer your questions and there is always tutors around to help with any homework. The campus- the 3 different campus' make the college very large but all 3 have a different aura to them so there is always something going on. The west bank is very quiet and full of art and music, east bank is the heart of the college and has many restaurants and action running through it, and St. Paul campus has a very homey feeling to it as well as animals and plants everywhere.

The UMN campus is extremely diverse and they are very accepting of any culture and tradition. There are so many different student groups that would help a person within the school feel right at home. And lastly, the professors as well as the Teacher's Assistants are all extremely helpful and considerate of anything that could potentially go wrong on a homework assignment or presentation. Overall, everyone is there in order to help one another learn and strive as opposed to sitting in one spot and not caring about their education.
