I think the person must be both work hard and play hard. The reason why I say this is because you will fall behind your peers if you just know how to study. Study is very important because without good GPA, you could not enter into Penn State. However, to get engaged in extracurricular activities at Penn State, you must be outgoing and easygoing.

There is no over-arching characteristic that classifies every single individual who currently attends Pennsylvania State University, other than that of "student." In high school most of PSU's students were in the upper end of their classes, but not all. There are jocks, nerds, extroverts, introverts, and every other variety of individual here, and that's part of what makes it so great. The most valuable thing for a student who wants to go here is to have a good work ethic. With a work ethic, any other school problem - lack of time, lack of experience - can be overcome.

The beauty of Penn State students is that there is no "typical" background. We are a university that prides itself in our diversity. There are students that come from poor backgrounds but graduated the top of their classes. There are students that were simultaneously athletes, singers, and on the honor roll. Every type of student fits in at Penn State, no matter their background in high school. There's a club for every interest, too, so that every student finds their unique niche that shapes their unique college experience.

In high school the people that attend PSU University Park seemed very independent and intelligent. They also had a very good idea of what they wanted to do with their life. I think you need to be independent because the school is so large, you also need to have good study habits, and be willing to work very hard especially if you intend on pursuing science or engineering.

A typical Penn State student was a dedicated and hard working high school student. He or she kept their school work at the top of their list; however, they were also involved in other things such as sports and clubs in their schools. I say this because a lot of students here are very skilled at juggling multiple things on their plate such as work and multiple clubs, while keeping their grades high. I can say I am one of those students who juggle many different things besides just school, and always did through high school.
