North Country was founded in 1938 and is an elementary-middle boarding school where students thrive on the joy of learning through core academics embedded in an environment of outdoors, arts, and community life. Students participate in farm/garden activities, learn responsibility through daily chores, gain resilience in rock climbing, skiing, horse riding and creative outdoor play. Student residences are family-lilke and develop strong bonds among students and staff, or as a parent has said, "There is not a place on the planet where teachers are more connected to students." ESL, SSAT prep and secondary school search provided. Lake Placid is known worldwide as a site of former winter Olympics Friendships, social skills, self-confidence and a passion for learning are among the best attributes of a North Country School student. In addition, the school is a haven for developing knowledge and love of nature, a community in which to excel without competitive pressure, and a respite from the influence of daily TV and media. North Country School students attend a great variety of boarding and day secondary schools after graduation from grade 9.
