John Ball Park Zoo School says

There is no other educational adventure in all of Michigan quite like the Zoo School experience. Located at John Ball Zoological Garden, Zoo School is designed to heighten an awareness of the environment, stimulate creative thinking, develop leadership, promote intellectual growth, and increase self-esteem. Zoo School takes hands-on learning to a whole new level as students engage in learning activities throughout the zoo's natural environment that meet all core subject and curriculum areas in math, science, reading, writing, and social studies


John Ball Park Zoo School received a Noodle Innovative School Award in 2015.

The Academic Plan articulates a clear and well-defined focus on student learning based on College Career Readiness standards. It is not about new work, rather a continuance of effort based education with the Principles of Learning, Common Core Standards, SIOP, RTI, PBIS, and current district and state assessments. It also incorporates input from teacher leaders, principals, curriculum specialists, A&E, and others. The Academic Plan determines professional development for the current year, including the summer.
