St. Procopius School's Full Profile

St. Procopius School says

St. Procopius Elementary School is Chicago’s only Catholic dual-language (English/Spanish) school. We offer children (pre-kindergarten through eighth grade) a truly unique educational experience in a faith-based environment firmly grounded in the Catholic tradition. As a dual-language school, instruction at St. Procopius is divided between English and Spanish—with instruction predominantly in Spanish in the early years, and transitioning to an even English/Spanish split by the time students reach third grade. The ultimate goal is that, in addition to fulfilling the requirements of the core curriculum, students will be bilingual and bi-literate when they graduate to high school.

At St. Procopius School, one of our most important responsibilities—along with our dual language instruction—is to provide a traditional liberal education incorporating the fundamentals: Language, Reading, Writing, Science, Math, Social Studies and the Arts. We believe that it is this core content, rooted in Catholic teaching, that provides the basis for a well-rounded education—one that will acquaint students with the full range of their own potential and allow them to develop the knowledge and open-mindedness necessary for choosing the right path for themselves later in life. Just as importantly, we believe that a sound liberal education contributes to the development of the person, preparing one to be a fully-developed individual as well as a responsible member of a larger community.

Mission Statement

St. Procopius School is an institution of primary learning pledging itself to educating children of all Chicago-area families wishing to provide for their children a learning environment incorporating all elements of a traditional liberal education (Language, Reading, Writing, Science, Math, Social Studies and the Arts) using English/Spanish dual-language instruction and dedicated to the Catholic faith, multicultural immersion, and racial and ethnic diversity. The mark of an education at St. Procopius School is rooted in the concept of cura personalis—care for the whole person. We strive to prepare students to live lives enriched in faith, knowledge, wisdom, intellectual curiosity and multiculturalism—all the while instilling in each student a desire to cultivate a positive sense of one’s own humanity.

Typical Day Information

St. Procopius School offers an After School Program (from 3:00 until 5:30 pm on most school days) at an additional charge for those families who choose to take advantage of it. The After School Program is designed to provide a safe, comfortable and educational environment where students can spend time after school when they don’t yet have the luxury of going home or when parents cannot yet leave their jobs for the day in order to pick them up. Students work on their homework, participate in various extracurricular activities and interact with classmates and faculty/staff in settings different from the experiences of class time.

Private schools, including parochial and boarding, are funded through tuition and fees. The cost varies from school to school, but most families pay tuition to attend them. Many private schools offer financial aid or discounts, so it's worthwhile to ask about these options.
