Colonial Hills United Methodist School's Full Profile
Colonial Hills United Methodist School says
Colonial Hills United Methodist School was established in 1970. We have spent all of our 45 years specializing in early childhood. Our focus is for each child to have the opportunity to grow creatively, physically, emotionally, academically and spiritually. We maintain small class sizes and value a developmental approach in all we do. The Christian way of life is modeled on a daily basis and the children attend chapel services weekly. The latest research validated our mission statement that children learn best when they feel safe and loved. A good preschool education is much more than learning the ABC's. As one of our alumni parents once said, "Colonial Hills School teaches children the three S's of Socialization, Self-esteem and Skills for life." Our highly trained excellent staff loves, nurtures and enriches each and every child. The children not only participate in a center-based, developmentally appropriate hands-on curriculum, they also attend special classes in Music, Spanish, Motor Skills, our outdoor garden/science area and Computer. Many on-campus events and field trips enrich our curriculum. As the children discover and explore, they experience the joy of learning.
All of our classes participate weekly in: music, Spanish, motor skills, computer and our outdoor garden.
Our Pre-K 3 year old classes utilize the Doors to Discovery curriculum. This hand-on, play-based curriculum uses thematic units and literacy activities to build a foundation of oral language, phonological awareness, and alphabet knowledge.
Our Pre-K 4 year old classes use the DLM Early Childhood Express curriculum as a basis for planning. This comprehensive program links language and early literacy, math, science, social studies, fine arts, health and safety, personal and physical development and technology. Our four year old program develops children's minds and bodies through carefully selected and sequenced learning experiences preparing them for future academic success.
Our Kindergarten Program offers a low student/teacher ratio. The Super Kids Reading program incorporates whole language activities and included a hand writing curriculum. Our math program is Based on the Silver Burdette Ginn Mathematics Program which combines art, music, rhythm and literature into a program of math exploration, practice and application. We offer hands-on science activities to meet student interest. Topics are taken from earth, life and physical science.
Our mission at Colonial Hills United Methodist School is to encourage and help children develop socially, physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually in a warm, safe and loving christian environment.
