Alain Locke Charter School says

Lottery applications are due in April 17, 2015. Parent and students must be residents of Chicago. Lottery drawing will be held on April 24, 2015. After the lottery drawing we continue to accept enrollment applicants for the waiting list and will contact applicants by phone if a spot becomes available. If accepted, a non-refundable student fee* of $100 per student or $150 per family (parents with 2 or more students enrolled in the school) must be paid at registration for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Payment must be made by money order or cash.


Alain Locke has a rigorous, standards-based curriculum focused on the core areas of reading, writing, math, social studies, and science.

Alain Locke Charter School serves as a demonstration for urban schools exemplifying excellence in academics, the arts, personal, and social development, and producing students who are globally competitive.



Public charter schools are supported through lower levels of direct, public funding, as well as though private subsidies. As with district public schools, they do not charge tuition to students who attend them.

Students will receive instruction in the Arts, Spanish, Technology, and Physical Education as part of a regular school day. Alain Locke students participate in the Friday Student Enrichment Club program. Clubs offered during the 2014-2015 academic year included chess, basketball, guitar, tap, robotics, pottery, Swahili, and more. Students participate in two clubs per quarter which meet weekly.
