At Montessori Preparatory, the Montessori environment promotes self-esteem, encourages fundamental motivation, spontaneous activity, and self-education. Dr. Maria Montessori was the first woman physician in Italy. She was also an Anthropologist and an astute observer of children. After many years of working with children all over the world she came to the conclusion that education must be an aid to life, a collaboration with nature. She believed that each child is born with a unique potential to be revealed, rather than as a "blank slate" waiting to be written upon. Her main contributions to those of us raising and educating children are in these areas: Preparing the environment in each stage of life and Learning to observe the child living freely in this environment, so that we can help to nourish the child's complete life. The Montessori method is dynamic in that observation and meeting of needs is continual and specific for each child. This philosophy is not to be restricted to schools but is valid wherever in the world there are children.
