Overview

Montessori School of Rome says

The Montessori School of Rome was founded in 1980 by Swarna Kumar. It was established to bring to the children of Rome and the surrounding community the opportunity to learn following the Montessori Method of education, a method first pioneered by Maria Montessori in 1907. The Montessori School of Rome serves students from 18 months through 8th grade, in a toddler program (18 months 3 years), a primary program (3-6 years/kindergarten), a lower elementary program (1st - 3rd grade), and an upper elementary program (4th 6th grade) and adolescent program (7th - 8th grade). It is a private school emphasizing, as do all Montessori schools, peace and tolerance.

Curriculum

We follow the Montessori method of learning, a time proven method which gives the child respect. We expose even the young child to cultural studies including geometry, zoology, botany, reading, writing, social studies, ancient and modern civilizations. We have an International Day which is a culmination of one month of studies of a country's culture. We have a Science Fair, and the students learn about the scientific method and present their experiments to the school.

Mission Statement

We want to follow the child, meeting them where they are and bringing forth the gifts in each of them. We have a hands-on highly sensorial environment where learning through movement is a high priority. Dr. Montessori realized that children learn actively, not by listening to words from a teacher, but by experiences in their environment. We provide a multi-cultural environment where children learn how to be citizens of the world through studying other countries and cultures. We provide a high level of academics and also educate the whole child, meeting their social, emotional, and intellectual needs. Our motor is wisdom, knowledge, and peace, all attributes needed in today's world.

Finance

Private schools, including parochial and boarding, are funded through tuition and fees. The cost varies from school to school, but most families pay tuition to attend them. Many private schools offer financial aid or discounts, so it's worthwhile to ask about these options.
