At St. Timothy’s School, we believe that from their earliest years of schooling through early adolescence, children are forming the skills and attitudes that will drive all future academic achievement and social development. They must be engaged, challenged, nurtured, and loved.
St. Timothy’s School is an Episcopal preparatory school for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade committed to building the strongest foundations to guide our students in successful lifelong journeys. We offer exceptional academic experiences and enriching opportunities for growth in a close-knit community of dedicated teachers and supportive families. We blend Episcopal school traditions with academic excellence in an environment that inspires the imagination, fosters creativity, and promotes a love of learning.
With a commitment to socioeconomic diversity, St. Timothy's School strives to remain an affordable independent private school. Nestled in the heart of Raleigh's midtown, St. Timothy's School is the only Episcopal parish day school in Wake County. Founded in 1958, it became the first non-public elementary school to receive accreditation from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the Southern Association of College and Schools (SACS). Our eighth grade graduates thrive and excel in a wide range of high schools. Each year we have students enroll in local private schools, public high schools, and boarding schools. Our students are prepared for the rigors and workload of the high school of their choice. That choice reflects the needs, interests and personal preferences of the student and family. St. Timothy's provides a strong academic foundation to prepare students for lifelong learning and success.
When they leave eighth grade, our graduates are ready for success anywhere — in Honors, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs, in public schools, private schools and parochial schools, from STEM curriculums to classical curriculums, and beyond. Our traditional, skills-based, preparatory curriculum equips each student with the foundations needed for these paths, or any other path they choose. Our curriculum is informed by expert sources that include national groups (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics or National Council for the Social Studies, for example), specialized subject-matter programs (Fountas and Pinnell or Wilson Fundations, for example), and well-regarded educational publishers. Our teachers also design, modify and supplement much of our curriculum.
We do not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to teaching and learning. A variety of instructional practices can be seen in our classrooms each day, and we will often accelerate our curriculum based on student needs. Additionally, a fee-based Learning Support Program assists students with academic fluency differences. Please explore our website for a more detailed description of our academic program.

Private schools, including parochial and boarding, are funded through tuition and fees. The cost varies from school to school, but most families pay tuition to attend them. Many private schools offer financial aid or discounts, so it's worthwhile to ask about these options.
