Desert Montessori School is an outstanding, pre-k and elementary school located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains on the north side of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The school promotes the long term growth based on a Montessori inspired education, creating unique physical environments staffed with dedicated professionals. Our school family reflects the vital spirit of Northern New Mexico and represents diverse heritages, capabilities and socio-economic backgrounds. This learning center, drawing upon a wide-ranging community support, forms a solid educational foundation for children ages 2 to 12 in pursuit of lifelong learning.
Our preschool program is solidly based in the Montessori method which uses a sequence of progressively challenging work allowing children to learn independently at their own pace. We believe that this type of environment leads to a strong sense of security, accomplishment and joy.
Our elementary program continues to be based in respect, but we move away from the traditional Montessori in order to prepare our students for Middle school and beyond. We've created a Montessori approach to teaching children how to be successful in more traditional school venues. We help them maintain their sense of learning style, help them understand what type of learner they are and how to communicate them so that they can be their own advocates in Middle school and beyond.
The mission of Desert Montessori School is to provide an education based on the Montessori Method of instruction, combined with constantly developing educational theories, to cultivate within its students a life-long love of learning and to foster meaningful independent thinking and social responsibility. The school shall maintain a respectful, safe, challenging, and caring environment for students, teachers, parents, and staff.
Private schools, including parochial and boarding, are funded through tuition and fees. The cost varies from school to school, but most families pay tuition to attend them. Many private schools offer financial aid or discounts, so it's worthwhile to ask about these options.
